Rope access

Rope access is a technique that uses ropes and positioning systems to safely and efficiently reach high or difficult-to-access work locations.
The primary goal of rope access is to plan and execute work in such a way that any risk of accidents, dangerous situations, or damage to equipment and surroundings is minimized.
Just like any other method of working at height, rope access should be seen as a complete system, in which planning, management, competence, and safety measures are all equally important.

Why choose rope access?

One of the major advantages of rope access is the ability to position workers safely and quickly at the work site.
Unlike scaffolding, cranes, or aerial platforms—which can obstruct or disrupt operations—rope access minimizes impact on business processes.

Rope access techniques offer numerous benefits:
  • Fast and efficient positioning at virtually any work site
  • The safest method for working at height, in confined spaces, or above water
  • Minimal to no disruption of ongoing business processes
  • Technicians with multiple professional skills
  • No damage or disturbance to the environment or surroundings
  • In many cases, no permit application is required

Applications of rope access

Originally developed for mountaineering, abseiling techniques were soon adopted by the offshore industry. Rope access allowed workers to perform tasks safely above water or in hard-to-reach areas on oil rigs and similar structures.
By eliminating the need for scaffolding and cranes, rope access not only improves safety and efficiency but also reduces environmental impact. Its advantages were quickly recognized, leading to widespread use on land as well.
Today, rope access is widely used in high-rise maintenance, monument preservation, and industrial sectors. Whether it’s for inspection or maintenance at height, above water, or in confined spaces, rope access enables fast, safe, and efficient work.
